Description

To produce Normann Copenhagen’s innovative Mat Chair, stems from hemp plants are shredded, mixed with a binder and converted into sheets, which are then compressed into chair shells. This expertly engineered process ensures the materials’ recyclability, so the material can be recycled at the end of use into new chairs. A takeback program is available for customers to facilitate this circular production.

Why hemp? A rapidly renewable crop, hemp doesn't require herbicides or pesticides. It also sequesters more CO2 than the equivalent area of forest. Strong and durable, hemp is a proven building material.

Powder-coated steel legs available in cream or black. Seat finish is a durable VOC-free linseed oil.

Designed by Danish design studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen. Each chair is approximately 41% hemp, with PE (polyethylene) and PP (polypropylene) binders. The full material can be recycled in to new products at Normann Copenhagen's manufacturing facilities through their takeback program.
